Lying in bed with Kalilah’s head on my chest I want to tell her the truth, but I don’t even know where to start. Instead of saying anything, I just keep quiet like I do every other time. Well, that is until she asks me a question that I don’t know how to answer.

“Vincente?”

“Yeah babe,” I answer.

“I know you keep this deep dark secret hidden from the rest of the world, but will you tell me one day?”

“You think I have a deep dark secret?”

She turns her head to look up at me. “You do. I see it written all over your face. That first time we met in the coffee shop, I knew there was something you were hiding.”

I run my hand down the back of her head and pull her mouth to mine to kiss. “Every man has truths they hold close to their vest and even darker secrets to protect.”

“What are your truths?”

I tuck the hair behind her ear before I give her one of my truths. “That little girl of mine is one of my truths. Every fucking thing that I’ve ever done right is in that little girl. I may be a sinner that might not have a future, but that little angel will be my saving grace.”

“You do too have a future.”

Looking into her eyes, I see the only future I’ll have. “You’re my future,” I whisper.

“As much as it should scare me to hear you say that, it doesn’t.” Her lips move to my bare chest where she presses them softly before turning her head to put her cheek right where she kissed.

“Good, because I mean it. You and I babe, you’re my end game.”

I feel her lips tip up in a grin against me and I just hold her body to mine. She’s right where she belongs.

As her breathing evens out and I feel her relax into me even more than before, I reach over and grab my phone from the bedside table. Checking the screen, I see a new message from Stavros and one from Letty.

I don’t even bother with Letty first because I already know what the bitch wants. A slew of profanities and how I fucked her life and only want our kid when it’s convenient for me, and that I only want her now because I have a new whore in my life.

She’s going to be in a world of hurt when she figures out what I am doing. The money will disappear, and she’ll never see that little girl again. Not that she really deserves to either. I’ll get even more threats, but they won’t matter. I’ll have a new number and she will never find us. Her druggy ass wouldn’t even bother. I’m sure once Adelina is with me, Letty won’t even bother worrying about her. She’ll just think of all the shit she can do without the responsibility of Ade being with her full time.

Checking Stavros’ message, I groan and roll out from under Kalilah.
